Body Contouring

Body contouring is a summary term describing procedures focused mainly on changing the shape and appearance of the trunk. Well known examples of body contouring procedures are liposuction, for which lipoplasty may be a more appropriate term, and abdominoplasty. However, breast augmentations, lifts and reductions fall into this category as well as gluteal reshaping with implants or fat transfer. As in sculpturing contouring means reductions as well as augmentations and thus body contouring procedures are not primarily performed to take off excess weight. However, the recent increase in weight loss procedures (e. g. gastric bypass or banding) has led to a significant increase in demand for body contouring after massive weight loss to enhance the shape of the body in the face of vastly redundant skin.
