Craniofacial surgery
Craniofacial surgery is that subspecialty in plastic surgery, which deals with the restoration of form and function in the regions of the head and face.
The spectrum of disorders comprises congenital deformities, trauma and tumors in adults and children. The majority involve in one way or the other the bones of the face and skull.
Thus frequently performed procedures in craniofacial surgery include reshaping of the skull, repositioning of the eye sockets and jaws, acute repair or secondary reconstruction of fractures of the facial skeleton, eye sockets, jaws and skull, lengthening of the skeleton in cases of growth disturbances, reconstruction and reshaping of ears and noses as well as the comprehensive management of clefts.
