Emergency services

The majority of emergencies in plastic surgery are related to hand and burn injuries followed by facial injuries.

Open fractures, dislocations and fracture-dislocations of the hand and wrist may require emergency surgery. Attempts to reattach amputated body parts or restore blood supply to the hand or fingers need to be performed within a relatively brief window of time. Certain soft tissue infections, predominantly in the hand, may fare better if operated upon emergently.
